LRN

LRN is not a business with a mission, but a mission with a business.

LRN’s purpose is to “help people around the world do the right thing” and mission is “inspiring principled performance in business. Dov was CEO for 25 years and currently serves as chairman.

Dov founded LRN in 1994 before ethics and compliance was a standalone function and industry. Prior to Dov’s founding LRN, companies were simply responding to individual legal and ethical lapses without reference to the larger, systemic causes that created them.

After the collapse of Enron in 2001, Dov testified before the U.S. Sentencing Commission, advocating for corporations to evolve from a check-the-box, compliance-only approach to fostering ethical cultures and behaviors. His proposals were adopted and currently serve as the standards by which companies, cultures, and programs are evaluated.

As the Internet developed and grew, so did Dov’s vision to help companies proactively provide employees with the knowledge and information needed not only to comply with the law, but to instill an atmosphere of trust, a sense of mutual respect, and a commitment to doing the right thing.  Dov and LRN pioneered the field of online ethics and compliance, an innovation that has profoundly shaped the modern-day ethics, compliance, and governance industry.

Since then, LRN has helped over 25 million people in more than 100 countries simultaneously navigate complex legal and regulatory environments and make ethical decisions. Today, LRN helps more than 2,500 companies foster ethical, responsible, and inclusive cultures – which in turn create sustainable competitive advantage. In partnership with LRN, companies need not choose between living principles and maximizing profits, or between enhancing reputation and growing revenue: all are a product of principled performance.

The HOW Institute for Society

Dov is so obsessed with the HOW that he created The HOW Institute for Society as a non-profit that seeks to build and nurture a culture of moral leadership, principled decision-making, and values-based behavior that enables individuals and institutions to meet the profound social, economic, and technological changes of the 21st Century.

The work at The HOW Institute is grounded on several foundational beliefs. For instance, institutions must be guided by values and shaped by moral leaders, and that moral authority and formal authority must be united to create meaningful and enduring impact. Individuals must be guided by moral principles and frameworks, and trust and shared truths are essential to bringing people together as communities, organizations, and collaborators. Healthy values-inspired communities are also the building blocks of a better society.

Today, The HOW Institute makes progress on these imperatives by educating and inspiring established and emerging leaders through curated learning experiences. It also builds moral frameworks and tools and develops new metrics and conduct original research. The HOW Institute also bring together leaders from all sectors for conversations on the most critical issues of our times.

GCL Advisory

Through GCL Advisory, Dov and his team help leaders rethink the very nature of how their organizations operate. GCL’s mission is to partner with organizations as they navigate the conditions of an increasingly interdependent and morally activated world. GCL works collaboratively with its partners to initiate and manage change around the human core of an organization: its system of governance, culture, and leadership.

This system is a “Human Operating System” – one that fosters self-governance and puts humanity at the core, trusting employees to act, inspired by values and purpose. Dov’s and GCL’s work integrates a cross-section of experts, facilitators, proprietary frameworks, analytics and tested processes designed to help leaders elevate mindsets, deepen understanding, and embed new modes of behavior at scale.
